VW has added a new design option for its local SUVs, applicable to both the Touareg and Tiguan.
Only available on the range-topping derivatives of each (Touareg Executive and Tiguan R-line), this new Black Style Package is essentially self-descriptive. It replaces most of the reflective metal and plastic styling elements with a blacked-out finish.
Applied to Touareg, the Black Style kit features an R-specification bumper, blackened chrome styling elements, darkened air-intakes, black roof rails and wing mirrors.
The grille is also darkened and black 21-inch Suzuka themed alloy wheels round off the Black Style Package aesthetic. VW quotes the total cost of upgrading a Touareg with its new Black Style Package at R39 900.
For those VW gravel travel customers who prefer their SUVs with slightly more manageable parking dimensions, the Black Style Package can also be optioned with any Tiguan Comfortline of Highline specification model.
Applied to VW’s smaller SUV, there are some differences in the content of the Black Style Package.
The Suzuka alloy wheels are similar in design, but an inch smaller, whilst you gain rear and side window privacy glass to.
Tiguan Black Style Pack vehicles also feature a black headliner inside and add sport suspension at each wheel corner, for slightly more agile driving dynamics. VW has confirmed R25 200 as the price for a Tiguan Black Style Package upgrade.
For those considering these Black Style Package upgrades, there are issues to consider. Vehicles with a near completely black styling finish can be very bothersome to keep clean in South Africa’s dusty driving environment.
But if you desire that classic black fashion design language in applied to your VW SUV, a few additional stops per month at the car wash won’t be seen as an unreasonable sacrifice.
